School of Education Assessment System

As of March 10, 2006 the School of Education (SOE) has implemented all of the systems above the horizontal line in this diagram to look at the results of the program and evaluate its effectiveness. SOE contracted with the central computing group on campus (ITS) to develop an Oracle Database and a MS Access front end to that database. The faculty provided ITS with assessment data points in the form of Excel spreadsheets and paper copies. During the Fall 2005 semester, secretaries using Access were the sole means for getting data into the SOE Assessment System. It is planned that the LSB will begin to assume the responsibility for maintaining and improving this system.

The LSB has been involved in development of our Goal Aware Tools in the Sakai environment as well as implementing OSP 2.0. The possibility exists to harvest goal rating data from the Sakai environment and provide a data feed to the ITS Oracle database. This would allow Sakai to serve as an alternate data input mechanism. It would also allow for more comprehensive reporting and analysis on the data collected with Goal Aware Tools then would likely be possible in the Sakai environment.
